Food for Thoughts

Giving Thanks

Today is new year eve. While most people go out for countdown and partying, I decided to stay home and rest, reflect and plan for next year.

As I take stock on the last day of the year, I can only say wow and giving thanks. I give thanks for the breakthrough in financial and health, inner healings, faith stretching experience, making new friends and deepening existing friendship. It's indeed a year of enlargement for me, mentally, spiritually and emotionally.

I remember beginning of this year, as I prayed and set my new year resolutions, two verses speak to me very much:

"be joyful always, pray continuously, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God." (1 Thel 5:16-18)

"lead a quiet life, mind own business and work with hand" (1 Thel 4:1)

While I have yet to set my next year new year resolution, what I desire most is to touch lives with all my endevours. From inward to outward. From within to without.

Happy New Year to all.

Song for the Season

Ever felt yourself chained and bound, limited and restricted, especially when things get tougher and bleak? God reminded me of the account of Paul and Barnabas in the prison. Instead of dwelling in self-pitiness, unfairness and bitterness, they praised God in the prison. Yes, right where they were. And the prison door was opened. I felt challenged to learn and apply the same in all my situations, ie to praise Him.

So, here's the song for this season that I would like to share with all of you:

On My Lips
(c)2002 Darren Morehouse & Ross Parsley

All the chains are broken
I have been set free
Every word you've spoken
Is watching over me
So how can I stay silent
When I hear You call my name
Living in Your presence
I'll never be the same

I've been found in You
Now I'll sing out Your truth

On my lips there's a shout of praise
Now I'm gonna dance for all my days
because I've seen the wonder of Your loving ways
So much joy here in Your embrace
Makes me want to sing and celebrate
Because I've seen the wonder of amazing grace

This Christmas

It's Christmas Eve today. It has been a busy day today, working through budgets and trying to do last minute changes. Had dinner with family, and with turkey.

This Christmas sees

the passing away of a dear friend's husband;
last minute shopping and midnight gift wrapping;
my return to corporate world after 3 years;
working late on Christmas Eve while most people are on hols and knocking off early;
having no program on the Eve;
appreciating little2 gifts and lunches;
celebrating good health

Christmas isn't Christmas till it happens in our heart, ie inviting Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, experiencing His matchless love, and be assured that we are secured in Him despite the financial storm.

I enjoy the quietness and self-reflection, giving thanks and counting my blessings.

Desert Song

For those of us who feel dry and low...desert season can be lonely and painful, but take heart, God still loves you. Song of encouragement for you..

From Desert Song (c) 2008 Brooke Fraser/Hillsong

This is my prayer in the desert
When all that's within me feels dry
This is my prayer in hunger and need
My God is the God who provides

This is my prayer in the fire
in weakness or trial or pain
There's a faith proved of more worth than gold
so refine me Lord through the flame

This is my prayer in the battle
When triumph is still on its way
I am a conqueror and co-heir with Christ
So firm on His promise I'll stand

I will bring praise (x2)
No weapon formed against me shall remain
I will rejoice, I will declare
God is My Victory and He is here

Whom do You Believe?

It's been a while since I last blogged. Busy schedules, busy deadlines, not to mention challenges, and yes, stress. Like swimming in choppy sea, out towards the deep sea. No knowing what lies ahead. Not knowing what likes underneath either.

But through all these, I felt being challenged as to whom/what do I believe? My past experience? My talents? My colleagues? My friends? My circumstances? No. I felt God wants me to believe and trust in Him. Total trust. Despite my feelings and negative thoughts, unfavourable circumstances. Being a melancholics, I want to be in control in some ways. But, there are times, I realise, to let go is better. Be it unforgiveness. Be it pride. Be it fear. Be it shame.

Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. The world tells you, "You need to see it to believe it". But God says, "Only as you believe it will you ever see it". Yeah, sometimes we limit ourselves by looking at ourselves, but God wants us to live with faith and expectancy, not our small thinking. We don't need to figure out things/ how to solve problems, and wonder how God will bring to pass. Our job is to be a believer. If we can see the invisible, God will do the impossible. [Quote form Joel Osteen "Your Best Life Now"]

So, start to believe that you are an overcomer in Christ, because God said so. Start to believe that He who begins the good work in you will bring to completion, because He said so. Start to believe all things work together for those who love Him, because He said so. It doesn't mean less troubles/ opposition, but you know you have Him throughout. He is trustworthy and praiseworthy.

Asking Why?

When somethings happen to us, when things are not moving the way we want, our natural response is to ask "Why? Why me?" I am in the season of being positioned in a place that I know God has His purpose for me. But, at this moment, the purpose has yet to be unfold. Many of us, naturally, will be frustrated and not doing anything unless God tells us A to Z reasons behind it. But, for me, this is a season where God wants to strength my faith in Him. To obey and to trust in Him, like Abraham, without knowing the full picture. Well, to some people, by saying that they do not know the answers to things that going on in there life seems to be something shameful, but to me, that's where we learn to be humble and dependant on God. Afterall, who is God? We, or God himself?

I identify with Joseph a lot. To many, at prime time of age, being in prison is not a glamour place at all. But Joseph, in his prison season, maintained a good attitude and hold on to God's promises and served faithfully at where he's being placed. He could have chosen to question God, be bitter and grumble over his apparent "waste of time and talent" in the prison. But he chose to trust God for this perfect plan and purpose, though I am sure at that moment of time, he did not have the full picture of everything.

Today worshop spoke to me a lot. Here's the lyric that I like to share with you:-

I will bring praise, will bring praise
No weapon formed against me shall remain
I will rejoice, I will declare
God is my victory and he is here

All of my life, in every season
You are still God,
I have a reason to sing
I have a reason to worship

(~chorus & bridge of Desert Song @ 2008 Hillsong)

The Week

A week that I rely on God like never before, but this time, with great expectancy that He is on my side, and He has an upper hand over all things.

A week of heartthrob and panicking, yet no paralysis.

A week that I overcome my feelings by overcoming my thoughts with word of God.

A week that I told God what my expectancy of an outcome, and it turns up as it is.

A week that I thought I don't deserve something, but God says by His grace it shall be given.

A week that I pray, and felt total release and peace

A week that I face challenges by looking into the mirror and ask my spirit to arise.

A week that I overcome setback with God's timely wisdom.

A week that I feel like I have walked out from the valley heading mountain top.

A week of rejoices and praises despite my panda eyes.:)

A week that I truly experience God's realness

A week of double leap of faith

Our Worth

There are times where we think we deserve somethings. There are times where we think we don't deserve somethings, and we don't know how to appreciate the good things that come into our lives. We let them pass by.

Jesus died for us on the cross, irregardless what we think, what we do or what we say. David, a young sheperd boy whom nobody ever thought he would be a king; Joseph, the dreamer, who went through hardship, rose to high position; Gideon, a fearful person, who kept asking God for signs for confimation, yet God used him mightily.

While many anchor their identities on acheivements, social status, money value, etc, God wants us to anchor ourselves in Him, to know who we are in Him. No matter what we have gone through, He finds it is totally worthwhile to wait for us, to bless us, to forgive us and embrace us. Once we know our identities in Him, and our focus on Him, other things will diminish and things will fall into places.

Dare to Dream

God wants to give us blessings and abundance life. He has great plans installed for us to discover. Many times, when He wants to pour unto us. But often, these are hindered and limited by our lack of faith. Joel Osteen, in his book, Your Best Life Now, encouraged us to expand our faith horizon, to see beyond our family background, our circumstances and dare to dream.

Matthew 9:28-29
When he had gone indoors, the blind men came to him, and he asked them, "Do you believe that I am able to do this?" "Yes, Lord," they replied. Then he touched their eyes and said, "According to your faith will it be done to you"

Do you believe that He is able to do so? If yes, then according to your faith He will do it to you...in His time. Lets pray and wait upon Him with great expectancy.

P/S...I have finished reading chapter 3 of Joel Osteen's "Your Best Life Now". Still reading.

New Chapter

Yeah, started a new chapter of my life. What an adjustment! From a structured environment, to a non-structured, and now back to structured. From small chat to technical chat, procedure chat...

Gosh, the amount of passwords that I have to remember and be creative in password setting. Yup, first day oredi forgot my password after the change. After 3 attempts, I was locked.

Despite that, I have pretty happy and excited. Yes, adjustment is definite, but I know the One behind all these: His grace, love and sceptor of favour. Strive to live for the Audience of One, our Lord Jesus Christ

Live by Faith

Heard a sermon over City Harvest Live Webcast yesterday. It's about faith. Yes, faith again! Here're what I have taken away:

We shape our life by what we believe and speak. If you speak death (like Chinese says, "Sei"), it will be dead; if you speak life, it will be alive. In 2 Corinthians 4:13, it is written: "I believed; therefore I have spoken." With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak.

Do you truly believe in God's word and promises? If so, start speaking to your circumstances with faith, proclaiming God's word and promises into your life, in faith.

Our National Day

Malaysian celebrated 51st Merdeka Day (Independent Day) yesterday. Yes, more than half a century. In The Star, lots of write-up in conjunction with the celebration. One was about our previous prime ministers: Tunku was a visionary and dreamer, Tun Razak was a planner and Tun Hussein Onn was an implementer. Another one was about inter-race marriages: testimonies, challenges and insights of the couples.Very interesting.

Many Malaysians have wishes and prayers for the nation. So, what's mine?
~ All Malaysians are bangsa Malaysia, without discrimination of races and religions
~ Greater depth in muhibbah spirit,
~ Economically revived and resource optimisation
~ Justice and righteousness prevails
~ Revolution in education system: more far-sighted and forward-looking, not regression.
~ Safety and peace for this land

Merdeka =Freedom, Independence. So, let it be, in all aspects: out of bondages, into freedom and independence. Happy Birthday, Malaysia!

Hanoi & Halong Bay 4D3N

Finally. The long waited trip to Vietnam come to fulfillment. My trip, together with my parents, had many first times: 1st time on Air Asia, 1st time visit to SEA other than Spore, 1st time overnight on boat/ship, and 1st time waking up before dawn to catch a flight.

Day1: Woke up at 2am. Getting ready. Left the house at 3am. Arrived LCCT at 4.30am. Checked in. Flight scheduled at 6:20am, was delayed 40 minutes due to no show of checked-in passengers. The flight was full, more than half were Vietnamese, whom, I think, first time taking a flight, perhaps out of their country. They clapped their hands when the flight took off and landed, and kept using their handphones throughout despite the warning from air stewardess. Narrow leg room and stiff chair back. Gosh, one nasi lemak costs RM8, and teh tarik RM4. While filling up the immigration form, I noticed that Vietnamese has a lot of similarity with Chinese. It sounds like a mixture of Quang Xi, Teo Chew, Mandarin and Hakka. Immigration=Hai Quan. Thank you=Xim Gan Ern. At the arrival hall, lots of ppl, holding bouquet of flowers to welcome back their relatives and friends. Apparent it is command over there. Tour guide picked us up at airport. We boarded the 8 seater MPV, with the tour guide and driver. Very personal. Went for a short city tour, had a chinese lunch, and ended the day with a short city tour. At night, we went out scouting for food on our own. But realised that English is not very widely used in there. We ended up eating at a seafood restaurant. Making order, we had to wait for a waitress who could speak English. A plate of seafood fried noodle costed RM8. Not cheap at all. Inflation indeed at Vietnam. Currency conversion is about RM1=VDN 5000. The notes had some many zeros at the back. Really had to be careful. We stayed in Hoa Binh Hotel, an old colonel 3 star hotel. Clean, well maintained and good service. Like the touch of classic. Motorbikers are terrible in Hanoi. 3 million bikers. Many who don't stop at traffic lights and dashed across despite the change of lights.

Day2: Had breakfast. Pick up arrived at 8am to go to Halong Bay. We joined some other tourists as well, and we were the only Asian! 3.5 hours drive from Hanoi. We boarded the dragon junk, checked in our luggage to the cabins on board of dragon junk and cruised Halong Bay. Spectacular scenery. Visited one of the largest caves. Flooded by mostly european tourists. Short visit to a fishing village and then went back to the cabin for shower, while the rest of the tour members went for a swim round the junk and kayaking. My tour members are from UK, Australia, Holand and Poland. Has dinner on board. Nice sun set. At the night, our junk were surrounded by other junks as well. The night were lighted by lights shined out from the junks, while the stars twinkled above.

Day3: Had lunch on board. Headed back to Hanoi. Reach Hanoi around 4pm. After checking into hotel, we went out to scout for dinner. Took a taxi to a foodcourt where lots of tourists and locals visited. Food was moderate but price was not that cheap. After that, we went for a walk at Hang Gai Pho. Bought moon cake and chinese tea pot. Then, we took a cab back to hotel. The cab meter jumped very fast. By the time we reached the hotel, the charges doubled what we paid earlier on. We complained, but the driver didn't seem to understand. So, we had to pay. Then, we complained to our hotel. We were ripped off. Was advised we should have insisted not paying and make a complain to the hotel reception. And we should have taken down the details of the cab, which the hotel could help to file a complain. What an experience. The thought that only Malaysian taxi will do that.

Day4: Had breakfast at 6am. Pick up at 6:30am to airport.

Overall, nice scenery, especially Halong Bay. I like the Old Quarters area at Hanoi as well. City with 18 lakes and history behind. Historical buildings were rebuilt and well maintained. Applaud the efforts. Don't like the dangerous bikers. I find communication difficulties there, as English is not as widely used as Malaysia. Understand that they learn English in school, but not widely used in day-to-day life. PETRONAS had lots of investment in Vietnam, and as part of their CSR effort, since 3 years back, they offers yearly scholarship to students in their final year at university to be part of their English Training Programme to boost their employability upon graduation. Buildings and houses in Hanoi are narrow and low rised. But I like the city. Lots of green, esp the city centre and outskirt. Imagine having lakes in the city centre! If you look down from the aeroplane before landing, you will see lots of padi fields and green fields...orderly planted. A great experience for a short trip.

A Listening Ear

I am a good listener. So, many people like to talk to me, pour out to me, especially their problems. Sometimes, the problems are repetitive in patterns. As I listen, I gave my comments/ suggestion at appropriate time, but sometimes, being there to lend a listening ear is comforting and encouraging.

Not sure if you ever come across some people, where they keep repeating their same problems, or pouring out many problems that have occurred along their way. And being a good listener, you lend them a listening ear. They seek your attention. But when it is your turn to pour out your problems, they either shut off, not paying attention, can't wait to tell their our problems or tell you that they had listened to these problems many times. Can be agitating and frustrating, isn't it?

No man is self sufficient. Everyone needs someone that they can pour out to. Everyone needs help some point in their life. As we listen, whatever we can help and within our reach, please do so. Of course, we are not suppose to overburden ourselves with their problems. Neither should we take an indifference attitude "this is not my problem, it's none of my business". Apply wisdom with a balance...I think should be fine.

Breakthrough. Freedom

Ding Ding Ding
The sound of shackles
The sound of feet dragging in shackles

Ding Ding Ding
Sound of dangling keys
Keys to freedom
from bondages

It was for freedom that Christ has set us free. No longer to be subject to the yoke of slavery, so we'll rejoicing in God's victory, our heart shall respond to His love. Let our darkest area be exposed to the light of His love. No longer be ashamed, no longer in fear. His love cast out all our fears. His grace is sufficient.

Like Paul, we shall forget the past, and strain towards what lies ahead. Our ultimate goal is to serve Him and do what pleases Him.

Breakthrough will come as we repent. Breakthrough will come as we humble before Him. Breakthrough will come as we obey and prioratise. All for His glory.

Rafting and "Roughing"

Vision of river, flowing down from mountain to the valley. Saw a group of people in a boat, doing white water rafting. The water is rapid and rough. But everyone stays in the boat, each doing their parts, keeping the boat balance and afloat. No abandonment.

Enlightenment came. As a body of Christ, we are called to be united in spirit. It doesn't mean conformity. It means unity. Like in white water rafting. Though the water is rapid and rough, all members stay in the same boat, irregardless. Because, they have a goal...it is to reach the destination. Each do their parts.

We have differences in view, in style and in speech. It won't mean less argument. But, lets stay in the boat and move together towards the same goal of higher calling.

Expectation II

by Os Hillman~From Today God is First daily devotion

I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. - Philippians 1:20

Have you ever had expectations that did not get fulfilled? Perhaps a coworker let you down. Perhaps you were trusting God for something in your life that never materialized. Perhaps you became devastated by an unmet expectation that you felt you were entitled to. Expectations can be a difficult trap for each of us if we are not fully committed to God's purposes in our lives.

Paul wrote this verse from prison to the people of Philippi. He had an expectation that his life would bring glory to God, whether through his continued ministry or his death. His joy in living was not based on his expectations getting fulfilled, but on remaining true to the purpose for which God made him.

When we react to circumstances with bitterness and resentment as a result of unmet expectations, we are saying that we know better than God, and that God has made a mistake in not meeting our expectations. The process of resolving unmet expectations may require full disclosure to the individual who was the source of the unmet expectation, and of how the unmet expectation made you feel. This is not to make the person feel obligated to meet the expectation, but simply to share your feelings about it. If God was the source, then it is important to share this with the Lord. However, once we have done this we must let go of the situation and allow God to work in our hearts the grace that is needed to walk in freedom from the pain of the unmet expectation. If we do not do this, we will allow the seed of bitterness and resentment to enter in. This seed of bitterness will create leanness in our soul and eventually will spread to others.

Ask yourself today if you have any unmet expectations. How have you responded to them? Have you processed this with the Lord and others who may be involved? These are the steps to freedom from unmet expectations.

Forgiveness **Part 1

I am currently reading John Loren & Paula Sandford and Lee Bowman's book, Choosing Forgiveness. Here's a summary of what I have read and my thoughts. Will share in parts.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Summary:
Love and respect in relationship can only be accomplished out of reverence to Christ. When we don't subject our wills to Christ, He will not rule our hearts, and He will not empower us to live with others in unity and forgiveness. We will be subject to one another, but to each other selfish control rather than in blessing.
In relationship, we can't avoid being subject to one another. Without Jesus' love in our lives, we will relate to one another in flesh than spirit. Only with the presence of Christ' redeeming grace, He can transform our relationships to blessings than harm.
In relationship, there's a tendency to counterbalance one another personality. However, tensions may arise when one of us is being pressed to lean uncomfortably towards the behaviour contrary to our temperament/ beliefs. To overcome this, we need to be sensitive enough to bring it to the cross and forgive. This is the time where we must evaluate what is happening in all the relationships and put our own ego in proper perspective. Step by step, day by day, we can take the practices of our relationships to the cross and ease the tensions through forgiveness. Through the power of Jesus Christ, our selfishness can be put to death and our wounded feelings get healed.
When our self-serving way of loving is brought to death on the cross, we radiate a warm and nurturing environment characteristic of the nature of Christ. Others then feel free to be themselves around us, and they feel free to respond to us in trust and love.
My thoughts:
God brings various people into our path. If you notice, we tend to get very agitated with certain people, or certain people with similar behaviours. Many of us, especially those who are very judgmental/critical, tend to lash out/ bad mouthing/get angry with them. We justify our anger, our attitude and our behaviour by blaming others for their misbehaviour. Our ego gets "bruised" when our advice are not taken in/ acted on, or the person did not do/ behave the way we have expected them to me. Expectation and blaming game kicks in. In actual fact, many a times, we didn't live up to their expectations as well.
I have learnt from this book that we are responsible for our own emotions, not others. Respect, acceptance, affirmation and grace. While confrontation is necessary at times, but honestly speaking, many avoid people that don't allow them to be themselves, people that always pick on you/ criticise everything that you do, but hardly praise/affirm.
The same yardstick you use on others, the same yardstick will be used on you. Strive to influence without ego. Learn and practise forgiveness
Dream Releaser
As a headhunter, and someone who is passionate to coach & develop people, it's natural that I feel a sense of fulfillment and joy when I land someone with a dreamed job, be it a career change, or working environment, or pay increment. A dream "releaser"...I suppose. A rewarding feeling that really beyond description
Tales of Two
~ A candidate who is very much underpaid at the moment, possesses great attitude and good communication skill. A client looking for a financial background person who wants to be a software product specialist, of which, he doesn't has the software experience, but his financial background & communication skill helps. Yesterday was the interview. It went well and a second interview was scheduled next week. The candidate kept thanking me for helping him and giving him an opportunity. It will be a career change for him.
~ Went with a friend to a music shop to look to scout for piano. She has wanted to teach music to earn side income, but so far, where she turned to has been discouragement. Many institutes require a music teacher must have completed grade 8 as a pre-requisite. Divine appointment. This particular music school that we went to believes in caliber, creativity and attitude more than the paper. Felt led to nudge my friend to ask the gentleman, who so happened to be one of the business partners, on their hiring requirements. The gentleman has been very patiently showing us various piano models. After all the discussion and conversation, my friend felt good about it...I guess she must be dreaming about it..being a part-time music teacher. Didn't do much for her, guess being there, supportive and being " Si Lai" to ask the right question that connect her to the opportunity helps...:)
Dare to dream. Dare to release others to pursue their dreams
Into the Open Sea
Standing at the river bank
Staring at the rapid flow
Hesitant to dive in
Couldn't resist to deep in, at last
Flow with the river
Enjoy the chasm; the scenery
Into the open sea as we flow
Overwhelming vastness makes us pause
Like the Lord to Joshua
Be strong and courageous
Do not be terrified nor discouraged
The Lord will be with us wherever we go
Blessed is the man
walk not in counsel of wicked
nor stand in the way of sinners
nor sit in the seat of mockers
His delight is in the law of the Lord
The law he meditates day and night
Like a tree planted by streams of water
yielding fruits in season
And the leaf doesn't wither
Whatever he does prospers
Interpersonal Skill & Relationship
Attended a talk about interpersonal skill/ relationship by Touch Life organisation.
www.touchlife.org
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The bible is all about relationship in all aspects. Relationship with God, with yourself and with others.

Why is it important?
* To be successful, you need to have good interpersonal skill and build good relationship with others. ~Frank Roosevelt

* A manager or a leader, has not value-adding if he/she can't mobilise people, even though he/she is smart/ highly intellectual. There's a saying that if you are zero EQ, the game is over.

Have you noticed why some people are very much welcome, or accepted by others, whereas some are not? Most likely, the former is someone who give affirmation, love, respect and acceptance to others.

God is always proactive in relationship. You can see that in the bible, when Adam & Eve sinned, and Cain murdered his brother, God was the one made the initiative to lookout for them. In Mark 12:30, "Love your God with all your heart, soul & mind. Love others as yourself." Lets decipher the sequence: 1st Love God, 2nd Love yourself, 3rd Love others. So, love yourself comes before loving others. Love yourself is to affirm, respect and accept yourself. Because, God has done so to us.

Your relationship with yourself is important as it affects your relationship with others:

* Someone who wants to cover their weakness likes to correct others
* Those who like to judge other are often lack of self affirmation

So, love your God with all your heart, soul & mind. Love others as yourself. So, strive to build good relationship and work on the interpersonal skill. It will carry you far...you will be amazed at the outpour of willingness & helps in all your circumstances. When you shout at the valley, the valley resonates your voice, and nothing else. So it is when it comes to relationship.

Faith the Facts

by Rick Warren

When will you ever learn that “believing” is useless without doing what God wants you to? Faith that does not result in good deeds is not real faith. James 2:20 (LB)

**** **** ****

Is faith simply a frame of mind? A passive attribute of a Christian waiting to see what God has in store for you: a promotion, cancer, depression, betrayal, blessing, wealth, and injustice . . . some see it that way. They might say, “I’ll just wait to see what God is going to do for me and go with the flow.” That’s crazy talk.

Faith is active. It’s not passive. It’s a commitment. Look at your lifestyle and see what kind of actions follow as a result of it. If you’ve got the real stuff, faith can be demonstrated.

When you were baptized you made a statement to God and the people around you. You said, “I’m in!” But it doesn’t stop at baptism – not by a long shot! What else do you do? You start following the pattern of Jesus. Faith is proven by how we live. Don’t misinterpret this. What you do – your walking around, everyday life – doesn’t get you into heaven. It doesn’t make you saved. It doesn’t mean you’re a Christian; it shows you are a Christian.

The next steps:

· Celebrate the lavish gift of grace. You were saved because Jesus is crazy about you and wants you to be with him in heaven. Revel in it!

· Show your faith. Wedding rings don’t make you married, but they say “Yes” in a visible way. In the same way, baptism isn’t the thing that will get you into heaven but it’s an act of obedience. (Jesus commanded us to baptize and be baptized.)

· Share your faith with the people around you. If you are excited about what God has done in your life, then why not share it? There are lots of ways to do that. Get plugged into serving God. There are literally millions of possibilities. Point people to Jesus and love them like Jesus did. It’ll be something you will relish for eternity.

^^^Inflation^^^

With the US subprime and oil price hike, the future looks bleak, especially everything that you buy cost more than they used to be. Along with that, share markets around the world are buoyant, and Malaysia politics faces unprecedented uncertainty and instability. And for recruitment/executive search companies, you can see and feel the downturn, and heard about news of headcount being frozen/ retrenchment.

Today, over the radio, there was a talk about this situation. Some people feel helpless about it, while the rest get out from the helplessness, to strategies: find ways to cut down/off expenses; find ways to increase existing pool of income.

Recently, I started this drive of RM5 lunch everyday in my office, ie everyone target to spend max RM5 over lunch. Well, so far, not too bad. Of course, some of the days, we burst the budget. :) But, I think, it's a good way to start. :)

Faith of God

It's a season of learning and self-equipping for me. Been attending seminars/workshops since April till now. Almost lost count of them. Let me recall: MSG, Healing of trauma, Counseling on Depression, Millionaire Mind, External Focus Church, TESOL.....things happen so fast, really find it difficult to keep up with them.

Last weekend, I attended the Elijah Challenge Seminar. What I take away the most was that God has given us, the believers of Christ, the authority over disease, demon and flesh. As believers, we have the faith in God, but many of us don't have faith of God. To put is in simple:-

Faith in God=believe that God is able to do things
Faith of God=believe that God has given us to authority to do things for him

Mountain moving faith is to exercise our faith of God. Our faith in God is our foundation, our faith of God is where we exercise our given authority, i.e. the action. We are short of miracles in these days, esp healing the sick, is because of lack of faith of God. During the workshop, we were trained to command the infirmity to leave, using our authority and don't doubt about it.

Many times, when we serve, or do God's work, we doubt about our authority, and we don't really trust/ believe in Him, esp things are not smooth sailing, illogical, not the way that we want them to be. Jesus command the storm to stop, Jesus command the eyes of the blind to see, Jesus command the lame to rise and walk, Jesus raised Lazarus. Jesus prayed and sought in His closet, but during ministry time, He exercise His assured, given authority and command...no longer praying when in the battlefield. When David faced Goliath, he did not stand there and pray, but with his faith of God, he shouted at Goliath that he came in the name of the Lord Almighty to fight him and with one sling of stone, Goliath was killed. On surface, he seemed boastful, but in actual fact, he was bold with his faith of God.

Let your faith of God arise. Let your mountain moving faith increase.

20 Jun~Went to Fitness First with a colleague right after work. We attended the Pilate Fitball class. It was first attempt for both of us. The exercise is to strengthen our core. There was one movements where we had to hold the fitball in between our calves and lift it up and sideways. Gosh, I thought I would probably walk like a wobbly crab after that. Another movement was to put our belly on top of the fitball, and both hands and legs were to lift up parallel to the ball. I tried many times: first lift up both legs, then lift up both hands...then I fell. I tried again, fell again...it was very frustrating, esp everyone else in the class got it...But, I kept trying. After struggling for almost 10 minutes, at last, I got it...hooray! All in all, I enjoyed it despite the pain. Felt really stretched, both physical and mental.

24 Jun~Attended a maritime exhibition. Enjoy talking to people to find out more about maritime. While I was struggling to hold on to all my goodies, a Japanese exhibitor walked up with his company goody bag, open it so that I could put the rest of goodies in the bag. What a kind gesture. Was really impressed by his gentleness and fluent English. Thereafter, we stop by a booth which specialised in pumping system on ship. Found out the exhibitor whom we spoke to is a Norwegian and the grandson of the founder. The company is based in Bergen, Norway, a town which I had been in 2005. Told the exhibitor, he was surprise to meet an Asian that had been to Bergen. Norway...is really a country which you can really identify it with ships and fishing.

Expectation

Many people say it's difficult to work for a friend, or work with a friend in the same company. Colleagues can become friends, and sometimes, good friends; but many a time, friends, after working together, become enemies. The same goes with business dealing. The same goes with family members. Well, I think, it's because of unmet expectation, and taking advantage.
We tend to place lots of "should" to people that we are close to. They should understand, they should do this, they should help me, they should give business deals to me, they should...the list is endless. When all these "should"s involve money, the tension is even greater.
Loyalty vs being taken advantage & betrayal; helpful vs demanding expectation; friendship vs professionalism; simple heart vs secret agenda..
The boundary can be grey.....well, can only follow my conscience...so long my conscience is clear, and my heart is peaceful. Steer away from those demanding expectation at an appropriate time, and confront where necessary. I have to admit it's easier to say and do it.

Facing the Giant

Today, I started my TESOL class. It's been a while since I last took a course, and have to go through hours of lectures, revision and preparation. I love to learn languages. Language is a connector to people from different countries and background.
But, taking this course seems to post a bit of challenges to me. For a non-native speaker, with a hard core chinese education background, jack of many languages but master of none. And...my stage fright, my soft voice projection, fear of failure, a woman who doesn't like limelight & be the centre of focus...will I ever overcome?

Teaching is to build life in others, for it imparts knowledge and values.

I know I can do all things, I can do all things through Christ. With the power of His love and the word of life, I can do all things, I can do all things through Christ.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Charisma

ability to show your care = Concern
ability to reach out = Helpful
ability to make things happen = Action
ability to produce = Result
ability to lead = Influence
ability to feel & respond = Sensitive
ability to give hope = Motivation
ability to build up = Affirmation

Faith & Action

Saw this quote...for you to ponder...

God is MOVED by your needs but will ACT on your faith. Your needs are not the issue; your faith is. If you can belive it, you will receive it. The Red Sea didn't part when the Israelites cried in panic but only when they went forward in faith.

Walk by faith, not by sight or feelings.

Communication

With the modern technologies, there are many tools we use to communicate now. While snail mails and postcards are still around in the market, emails, SMS and handphone are something that most people can't leave without. The effectiveness of whichever way that you choose to communicate really depends on the audience, contents, urgency and location. And it varies from individuals to individuals. The tool and style that suits you, may not be suitable to you audience. Thing that seems to so "common sense" to you, may not be for others.

I have a client who has very busy schedule and most of the time I can't get hold of him via his office direct line. I realised later that his prefers mode of communication is email, as most of time, he is very responsive via email. So, I change my style and mode of communication with him. There was once, I have arranged a appointment for him and my candidate, but the appointment is within the next few hours, and I need his confirmation soonest. So, I chose SMS instead followed by an email. And he responded via sms due to the urgency.
I love home-cooked food. Almost every evening, I dine with my family. So, my agreement with my family is that if I won't be home for dinner, either I inform early in the morning before I leave home, or if something ad-hoc came up during the day, I will inform by 5pm. SMS is my usual mode of informing. There was once, it's almost 5pm, and something came up that I wouldn't be back for dinner, I chose to SMS. And of course, the message was not read in time, and my portion was prepared. What a waste! So, I learnt my lesson, and the next time, especially it's almost 5pm, I SMS to inform.
With the modern technologies, we have many modes to choose to communicate. While economical is ideal, it should not undermine the efficiency and effectiveness of the communication. Sometimes email and SMS may be delayed, even though on your end it indicates delivery...transmission problem. Email and SMS are convenient, but there are things that we can resolve by just one phone call away.
So, choose wisely and be flexible to change when it needs to be.
Communication is really an art and skill that requires constant learning and improvement. We can't achieve 100% no misunderstanding full proof, but I think it will help reduce and perhaps "repair" the damage that has been done before.

Kung Fu Panda

Po, an enthusiatic, big and clumsy panda, is the biggest fan of Kung Fu. He works everyday in his family's noodle shop, but his heart desire is to learn Kung Fu. He even had a dream that he becomes a warrior. Unexpectedly chosen to fulfill an ancient prophecy, he has to endure sceptic and doubt, from others and even himself. But, his "never give up" spirit, despite his self-doubt, plus Master Shifu's eventual belief in him, turns his weakness to his strength.

Some thoughts came after the movie:

~ Never give up on your dream despite disappointment and discouragement

~ Just be yourself. Your strength can be your weakness, and your weakness can be your strength

~If you are a leader or a mentor, and you are leading or mentoring someone, do see beyond their weakness. Strive to bring the best out of the individual. Be generous with encouragement and affirmation

~Team work is important in achieving a common goal. No man is an island. Watch the movie and see how the legendary Furious Five -- Tigress, Crane, Mantis, Viper and Monkey, fight against Tai Lung.

Fear is So Yesterday

***from Heartfelt Blessing***

Fear is always counseling you against the perils of 'now' because of something that happened 'once before'.
--Robert Holden

Yesterday might be a nice place to visit, but only fear wants to live there. The next time fear calls out to you, face it squarely and remind it gently that you no longer choose to live in the past and it can't live in the present. Then bless it and let it go.

Always be aware that fear needs the past to survive. And always be aware that you are loved beyond measure

His Glory

Today, in church, Pastor shared about 3 steps of welcoming the King's glory:
1. Seek to understand, recognising the season
2. Declare the glory thru prophesy and telling His mighty works. Lifting up the possibilities.
3. Continue to seek Him even more. For he is great healer and creator. Be externally focused

Psalm24, 1 Cor 2:9-10

As I reflected. The following song came. And as I asked God, how do I experience more of His glory in me and thru me besides the above steps, the verses in John 11 came. Lazarus was dead. Mary & Martha were very sad and said if Jesus had come earlier, their brother would not be dead. Jesus told Martha, in John 11:40, "Did I not tell you if you believe, you will see the glory of God?" Jesus then called in a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!" The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. He raised Lazarus from the dead.

Do you truely 100% believe in Him, of who He says He? If you believe, you will see His Glory in whatever situation and wherever you are. The lyric of the song goes :-

Your Glory
@2005 Mike Guglielmucci/ Planet Shakers Ministries

Break of Day, Your light it shines on us
And Your glory fills this place
Like the Sun, it rises up on us
It's the glory of Your face

And I lift my eyes to heaven
And I lift my eyes to heaven

Your glory, the whole earth is filled with
Your glory, nations cry out they sing
Holy, Holy is the Lord
Your glory, Jesus one touch of
Your glory, I lift my hands and sing
Holy, Holy is the Lord
Is the Lord

Show me Your glory, Show me Your glory, Show me Your glory

Financial Health & You

~article taken from Malaysian Investor www.min.com.my
Lab 1 - Main Sources of Income Test
In order to know what your current financial position is, you need to review your inflow and outflow of money. You have to clearly identify your main sources of income, which are basically monies that go into your pocket, such as your salary, dividends, capital gains, rental income from your properties, distribution from business, interest from your bank savings and fixed deposits.
Your total income can be divided into three categories, namely earned income, passive income and portfolio income. Earned income is the money you take home as your salary. This is the hard earned money paid by your employer for the work you do. Normally, it is taxed at higher rate than any other forms of income.

Passive income is money received from property investment or distribution from business. This is a form of income that you should not work too much on, but it is still able to generate continuous stream without much effort on your part.

Portfolio income is money that you receive from the returns of your investment in financial assets, for example dividends from stocks, income from bonds as well as the returns from unit trusts. It is also another form of passive income whereby you would not have to actively be involved in generating the income.

Lab 2 - Main Sources of Expenses Test
An expense is the money that leaves your pocket. They are all expenses that you have to incur in order to maintain your lifestyle. Examples would include credit card payments, housing loan repayments, car loan repayments, utility payments, grocery bills, taxes, travel and entertainment and all other personal expenses.

In determining your financial position, you need to track all of your expenses. One of the main reasons that people discover that they do not have much saved up when they retire is because they never control their expenses. They lose track as to how they spend their money every month. The one pattern they constantly observe is that they always do not have enough money to support their lifestyles. As a result, they may have to incur additional debt to pay for their expenses as their earned income is insufficient to pay for all of their expenses.
One way to track your expenses is to write down every item that you spend on. JOT-IT-DOWN! - It is tedious but in the long run, a rewarding task, as you will be able to keep track of what your hard earned money is spent on. If you are unable to track all items, make sure that you at least aware of all payments made to purchase the more costly items. You will find it shocking to discover that a majority of you are genuinely surprised once you’ve discovered how much money you have spent on certain items. Please refer to the table below on how to build your financial statement.
Lab 3 - The 90 Percent Rule
Ken Little in his book titled Personal Finance At Your Fingertips recommends that you save 10 percent of your income. Have a look at the table below and you will see that income minus expenses equals to net cash flow (A-B). The 90 Percent Rule requires the net cash flow (A-B) to be at least 10 percent of your income (A).

In Malaysia, in view of the current high inflation rate, it is not easy to save 10 percent of your income. To us, it does not matter whether you are able to save 5 percent, 10 percent or 15 percent of your income, the more crucial issue would be that you start saving and start nurturing the habit of saving.
You have to start someday, why not today?

7 Common Money Mistakes to Avoid

~article taken from Malaysia Investor http://www.min.com.my/

If you are thinking of improving your financial health, first, you need to be able to recognize your financial mistakes so that you can learn not to repeat them.
Here are some commonly made money mistakes that everyone should avoid:

Mistake #1: Failing to Plan
If we carry out a survey on the people around us, we would be sure to find that not many of us plan our finances. The most common response that we can anticipate would be the classic excuse “We are just too busy with work and family that we hardly have any time left to do the planning”. As a result, most of us end up paying higher taxes, leave our savings sitting silently in lousy investments for years or overpaying for financial products. Since there are always deadlines to be met at work, we tend to let our finances run its own course, thinking that it is of lower priority as there are no deadlines to meet nor is there anyone to force us to look into our financial plans, unless of course we run into serious deficit.
However, the important point to note here is that PLANNING is typically found to be a strong habit among people who have successfully accumulated wealth, even with just a modest income.

Mistake #2: Spending Beyond Our Means
Nowadays, we constantly overspend due to peer pressure and consumer temptation that surround us on a daily basis . We are, to a certain extent, exposed to mild brainwashing with TV commercials, newspaper ads, sale circulars, and flashy shopping malls promoting the lifestyles adopted by the rich and famous, which of course involves having the latest mobile phone models, the latest luxurious cars, latest fashion trend. All these tempt us into spending exorbitantly and unnecessarily. The signals we get from not jumping on the bandwagon is that we will be considered left out of today’s scene. However, in order to do so, far too often, we end up spending way beyond our means. We will find that at the end of each month, the net salaries that go into our bank account are usually meagre, after servicing our car loans, housing loans, credit card bills and other utility bills.

Mistake #3: Spending Future Money
Buy now and pay later! This has become a norm nowadays and the credit card has become a must-have item in our wallet. In fact, a lot of us carry more than one in our wallets. No doubt of it is a convenient item to have around, however, some of us misuse it and treat it like a vehicle to spend our future money at will. It has become a common phenomenon where, by just settling the minimum payment at the end of the month, you will buy more now. As a result, the credit card bad debt snow-balls to an extent beyond our control. According to the bankruptcy report, the percentage of people declared bankrupt due to default in credit card payment has increased in the last few years especially among the younger age group. Be wise when using credit card. Making minimum monthly payment on credit card debt allows you to buy more now, but it will cost you dearly in the future.
Mistake #4: Delaying Saving for Retirement
Most of us aim to take up early retirement. In order to achieve this, we need to plan our finances to make sure that we have enough savings to sustain the life style that we desire even after retirement. However, many of us find that even when we approach retirement, we still struggle to meet the savings target that we have set for ourselves earlier. As our income grows, our savings are supposed to increase as well, instead, we more often than not, have big items to spend on, i.e. house upgrading, new car purchase, club membership to keep up with our peers, etc., that prevents us from depositing more into our savings.

Mistake # 5: Investing in the Wrong Products
There are various kinds of financial products in the market. However, in order for us to identify the right product that suits our risk and return profile, we need to equip ourselves with some basic investment knowledge and do the homework ourselves. Instead, most of us end up investing in some products, simply because we rely too much on the financial advisers, who might have the agenda of pushing higher sales for their products and therefore providing misleading information to us. It is always important to study the product characteristics or the management team track record before investing.

Mistake #6: Not Saving for a Rainy Day
Some of us think that purchasing insurance is a waste of money. However, we are vulnerable if we and our family do not have insurance to cater for any loss of income. In the event of some unfortunate incident, especially those affecting the family’s bread winner, without any cash reserve or insurance, it will be devastating to the whole family. By then, it would be too late to start thinking of income replacement.

Mistake #7: Focusing Too Much on Money Matters
All the above tell us to focus on our finances. However, on the other extreme, we must also not be too engrossed in accumulating our wealth to the extent that we lose sight of other priorities in our lives. While we plan our financial health, we must not neglect our own health, family and friends, career satisfaction and fulfilling interests. Without these, even with tons of money, we will not be happy.

Lastly, we need remind ourselves of the importance of planning our finances. If we are not fully, totally and truly committed to creating wealth, chances are wealth will remain estranged to us.

Performing Miracles with Your Staff

by Os HillmanTuesday, June 03 2008

"But take this staff in your hand so you can perform miraculous signs with it." - Exodus 4:17

What is the staff God has put into your hand? Is it being a builder? Is it being an office worker? Is it being a doctor? Moses' staff represented his vocation as a shepherd. God had something in mind for his vocation - to perform miracles. And awesome miracles He did! God turned the Nile river into blood with the touch of the staff. He turned the staff into a snake. He parted the Red Sea with it. These are just a few of the miracles God did with that staff. When we yield our talents and abilities to the Lord, God can perform miracles through them. First, Moses had to yield what He had in his hand to God. Only after this took place could God use that staff. As long as Moses held onto it, God could not and would not perform miracles through it. Until we come to this place with our heavenly Father, we will fail to see miracles performed in our work. He delights in showing His power through us. When we become an open vessel, we can expect to see things happen. Have you given your staff to the Lord? Offer it to Him and see what He might want to do through it. Your life will never be the same.

Thunders and Storms

Everyone goes through thunders and storms in life. Many times, the situation is beyond our control. You have put in effort in whatever your endeavour, but the results seem to deviate from the effort that you put in. Debt building, money is stagnant and dwindling. Disappointment after disappointment. Your dream seems to be far from reach. Your mind osciliates between giving up and pressing on. Sounds familiar, huh?
This morning, I woke up. Oh dear, it's another day again. But, as I spent quiet time reading the daily devotional, it spoke to me. The disciples and Jesus were in the ship, and they were facing terrible storm. The disciples were panic, while Jesus was fast asleep. And when they woke Him up, He calmed the storm by just giving one command.
Jesus is indeed sovereign and in control of everything. All we have to do is to invite Him into our "boat", and commit the situation to Him, and trust Him totally. For He is trustworthy, dependable and a mighty God.
He is great indeed. As the song goes...Rest my soul, in Christ alone. Know His power, in quietness and trust. When the ocean rise and thunder roars, I will soar with You above the storm. Father, You are king over the flood. I will be still and know You're God...

Something to Ponder

Went to gym yesterday. While working out on the stepper, I saw a movie trailer. Some of scenes had words that attracted my eyes:

Emotion - Logic = Faith
Work - Dream = Job

Something to ponder about?

Breaking Arrow

Attended Millionaire Mind Intensive Workshop, a 3 full days workshop, from 23 May to 25 May 2008. Held in The Mines Exhibition and Convention Centre, Kuala Lumpur. There were 4800 participants.

We have many emotions over money, as well as over many things in our lives. On the 3rd day of the workshop, we teamed up in groups of 10. Each person get an arrow. At the tip of the arrow, we were instructed to write one thing that we want to break in our lives. Before the game started, we had to sign off an indemnity letter. Then, the game begin. One person will be the holder, one person will be a breaker. Both were given protective goggles. The end of arrow will be put at the palm of the holder, while the tip of the arrow will be put at the soft patch above the collar bone in the middle of the neck. Then, the breaker will push the upper body towards the holder to break the arrow which was in between the 2.

For me, before I did it, I had second thought..to quit. But, I decided to go ahead. As I pushed slowly towards the holder, I felt a bit painful. Then as I saw the arrow started to bend, I pushed on further and further, faster. And it broke steadily. I glad I did it inspite of fear.

Courage is not absence of fear, but it is to act inspite of fear. When we face the Goliath in our lives, lets be like David, face it not by our might or power, but by the spirit of God, and truly trust in who He says He is, the great I am. As we seek our breakthrough in our lives, lets be like Paul, pressing on towards the goal. Our God is Baal Perazzim. The breakthrough will come as we press on.

Low Fuel Tank

2 weeks ago, I accompanied a friend to collect her new car from USJ industrial area. It was an honour to be her first passanger, yet I kept joking with her that I risk my life to accompany her. Haha.

After we collected her new car, the salesman gave us the direction to drive home and the nearest petrol station. As we drove out, hit on the highway, we missed the first petrol station on the left. Then, we passby second petrol station, we missed it again as we were driving on the centre lane and there were too many cars on the left that can allow us to do so. Thereafter, we were caught in a massive jam. The fuel tank light kept appearing. Finally, we were about 500m away from a petrol station, the car came to a stop. I was prepared to get down from the car and make a dash to the petrol station. My friend, quickly turned off the engine, prayed and turned it on again. The car get started. Praise God! We then quickly drove to the petrol station which was 500m away to fill up the tank.

Isn't it the same with our life? Busy with many things in our lives, like Martha. We find it difficult to be like Mary, to sit at the feet of Jesus, to learn from him and to spend time with him...to fill up our spiritual tank. But that is very important. To take us further in our journey, we can't run on a low fuel tank, but a filled tank.

Purpose of Life

In the interview by Paul Bradshaw with Rick Warren, Rick said:

People ask me, What is the purpose of life? And I respond: In a nutshell, life is preparation for eternity. We were not made to last forever, and God wants us to be with Him in Heaven.

O
ne day my heart is going to stop, and that will be the end of my body-- but not the end of me.

I may live 60 to 100 years on earth, but I am going to spend trillions of years in eternity. This is the warm-up act - the dress rehearsal. God wants us to practice on earth what we will do forever in eternity.

We were made by God and for God, and until you figure that out, life isn't going to make sense.

Life is a series of problems: Either you are in one now, you're just coming out of one, or you're getting ready to go into another one.

The reason for this is that God is more interested in your character than your comfort.

God is more interested in making your life holy than He is in making your life happy.

We can be reasonably happy here on earth, but that's not the goal of life. The goal is to grow in character, in Christ likeness.

This past year has been the greatest year of my life but also the toughest, with my wife, Kay, getting cancer.

I used to think that life was hills and valleys - you go through a dark time, then you go to the mountaintop, back and forth. I don't believe that anymore.

Rather than life being hills and valleys, I believe that it's kind of like two rails on a railroad track, and at all times you have something good and something bad in your life.

No matter how good things are in your life, there is always something bad that needs to be worked on.

And no matter how bad things are in your life, there is always something good you can thank God for.

You can focus on your purposes, or you can focus on your problems.

I
f you focus on your problems, you're going into self-centeredness,'which is my problem, my issues, my pain.' But one of the easiest ways to get rid of pain is to get your focus off yourself and onto God and others.

We discovered quickly that in spite of the prayers of hundreds of thousands of people, God was not going to heal Kay or make it easy for her.

It has been very difficult for her, and yet God has strengthened her character, given her a ministry of helping other people, given her a testimony, drawn her closer to Him and to people.

You have to learn to deal with both the good and the bad of life.

Actually, sometimes learning to deal with the good is harder. For instance, this past year, all of a sudden, when the book sold 15 million copies, it made me instantly very wealthy.

It also brought a lot of notoriety that I had never had to deal with before. I don't think God gives you money or notoriety for your own ego or for you to live a life of ease.

So I began to ask God what He wanted me to do with this money, notoriety and influence. He gave me two different passages that helped me decide what to do, II Corinthians 9 and Psalm 72

1
. In spite of all the money coming in, we would not change our lifestyle one bit. We made no major purchases.

2. About midway through last year, I stopped taking a salary from the church.

3. We set up foundations to fund an initiative we call The Peace Plan to plant churches, equip leaders, assist the poor, care for the sick, and educate the next generation.

4. I added up all that the church had paid me in the 24 years since I started the church, and I gave it all back. It was liberating to be able to serve God for free.

We need to ask ourselves: Am I going to live for possessions? Popularity?

Am I going to be driven by pressures? Guilt? Bitterness? Materialism? Or am I going to be driven by God's purposes (for my life)?

When I get up in the morning, I sit on the side of my bed and say, God, if I don't get anything else done today, I want to know You more and love You better. God didn't put me on earth just to fulfill a to-do list. He's more interested in what I am than what I do.
That's why we're called human beings, not human doings.

Happy moments, PRAISE GOD.
Difficult moments, SEEK GOD.
Quiet moments, WORSHIP GOD.
Painful moments, TRUST GOD.
Every moment, THANK GOD.

God's Blessings on you today.

Another Farewell

It is always difficult to say goodbye. But, like chinese saying goes, there's no banquet that never ends. We wish the best for the those who are moving on. We cherish the moments that we had spent together. It's always the people that we are going to miss.
Well..stay in touch with each other is the key...

Peace

The photo was taken in Oslo, Norway in Year 2005. I like its serenity very much. It reminded me of my favourite Psalm23:

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Whose Battle is it?

by Rick Warren

“But you will not even need to fight. Take your positions; then stand still and watch the Lord’s victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out there tomorrow, for the Lord is with you!” 2 Chronicles 20:17 (NLT)
*** *** *** ***
In today’s passage, God is talking to King Jehoshaphat and the Israelites. They’re about to be attacked by three enemies: the Moabites, the Ammonites, and the Meunites. Jehoshaphat had to be worried about how his people could defend themselves in such a battle, but God knew exactly what Jehoshaphat was thinking. He said, “You will not have to fight in this battle.” Now, that’s the kind of battle I like! What God tells Jehoshaphat in this passage, and what he would remind us today, is this: “The battle is not yours; it’s mine. You don’t have to fight in it.”
In other words, it’s God’s problem. Let him solve it.

The fact is if you are God’s child, then your problems are his problems. And he’s much better at fighting your battles and solving your problems than you will ever be. Your job is to trust him to work it all out. Perhaps the reason we have so many tired, fatigued, and discouraged Christians is because we think, “It all depends on me.”
The day you resign as General Manager of the Universe, you’re going to find that it doesn’t fall apart. You can relax in faith, trusting that God is able to run things without your help.

Twice in this passage it says, “Don’t be afraid,” and “Don’t be discouraged.” When you face a seemingly impossible situation, don’t be afraid and don’t be discouraged. Has God ever lost a battle? No. He doesn’t lose battles.

There’s an important phrase in verse 17. God tells Jehoshaphat, “Take your positions and stand firm.” What does it mean to stand firm? It means to have a mental attitude of quiet confidence. It is never God’s will for you to run from a difficult situation. I’ve discovered that when I run from a difficult situation, inevitably God always brings it back around and gives me another chance. It’s inevitable. Why?
Because God wants us to learn – and he wants to teach us through experience – that in every situation he is sufficient. He is competent and capable and he will meet our needs in that situation. Don’t be afraid; fear is the opposite of faith.

You stand firm on two things:
The character of God – He’s faithful. He does not bring us this far just to let us down. He doesn’t bring you out on a limb and then cut off the limb. Have faith in the nature andcharacter of God.
The truth of his Word – God’s Word is faithful. You can count on the promises found in the Bible.
Stand still. Remember Who the battle belongs to. Trust that he is able to deliver you. And then watch him do it!

Faith and Believe~Quotes

Quoted frm NLRC, Faith Alive
Faith is being sure of what we hope for. Hope does not disappoint. If you are disappoited about something, turn it around. Start with a simple hope. Bring that hope to Jesus. Faith will come and you will receive.

My Daily Faith Confession: I am a child of God. God is my Father who loves me even though he knows everything about me. B'coz God is for me, I have no fear. I am not anxious b'coz He is handling everyone of my concerns. My God is a good God and I know that something good is happening to me everyday of my life.

I BELIEVE, therefore I am. I do not live by what I feel. I prosper by what I believe. I believe what the Bible says about me. I am a child of God. BLESSED, FAVOURED, PROTECTED, ANOINTED and filled with His grace which can MORE than take care of any mountain infront of me. I am a conqueror and MORE.

Live life full! Live as if you are passionately loved and securely wrapped in the arms of our Heavenly faither. Live as if He is smiling at you . Live as if God is on your team. Live without a care in this world. Deu 33:27, Num 6:25, Rom 8:31, 1Pet5:7

God's hand stretches out to those who dares to "believe". Believing makes the impossible possible and the "CAN'Ts" to "CANs". Believing releases the angels to work on our behalf. Be daring to believe God for miracles - Your Father delights to give them to You.
Rom10:10-Speak life into every situation! God's supernatural power is released when we BELIEVE with our hearts and SPEAK with our lips. God believed and spoke the world into being. This is the double barell key to crative miracles. Keep believing, keep speaking and life will spring forth around you.

Tests of the Heart

by Os HillmanMonday, April 28 2008
"Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep His commands." - Deuteronomy 8:2
Has God performed a heart test on you lately? There are times in our lives when God leads us into the desert in order to let us find out what is in our heart. These times can be very difficult and humbling. They can test our mettle like no other time. Desert times often mean we are living without those things we are normally accustomed to: water, food, limited supplies - and with few comforts. In modern terms, it may mean a different environment. God is performing a very important work during these times. He wants to know if we can be obedient to Him in these times; or will we be obedient only when times are good?
"He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. Your clothes did not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years. Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you" (Deuteronomy 8:3-5).
These desert times may mean experiencing new ways of provision from the Lord. Like manna from Heaven, it may mean seeing miracles we've never seen before. Like clothing that never wears out, it may mean seeing your normal capabilities expanded. Like walking hundreds of miles without pain, desert experiences provide new lessons and new experiences that only these times can teach us. What desert experience has He brought into your life lately? Perhaps it is a lean time in business. Perhaps it is a new environment. Whatever it is, when God decides to bring new disciplines into our lives by bringing us into the desert, do not fear the heat that is sure to come. He is walking beside you in order to test you and find out what is really in your heart. Ask for His grace to pass the test. He wants to bring all of His children into the Promised Land.

Careful with Our Speech

Children are fast learner and great imitator. Basically they imitate our mannerism, the word we use and our lifestyle as well.

The other day, my 3 year old nephew, while I was watching the maid trying to change him into his pajamas, he kept insisting that I helped him to cut off the brand tag. When I refused to do so, he threw tantrum. Finally, my sister agreed to help him to cut off when they returned home later on. His face brightened up with a smile. Then, he looked at me, with his little finger pointing at me, saying, " You, no good. I don't want you." And I looked at him and said with a stern voice, "You say that again?" He then kept quiet. But his mannerism resembled one of his parents. It's the tone and word that the parent used when he refused to listen, or do as requested. That evening, he left my house, refusing to say/kiss me goodbye!

Here's my thoughts. Discipline children is important. But the choice of words and the way we discipline have to be wise. Children is great imitator. If you ever visit a play school/ kindergarden, you will be amazed by some of the children behaviour and speeches. And from there, you will be able to rough gauge of their family background. You reckon?

How to Handle Failure

by Rick Warren (c) 2008 Purpose Driven Life

Sometimes it takes a painful experience to make us change our ways. Proverbs 20:30
No one’s life is an unbroken chain of victories. We all experience setbacks, defeats, losses, and failures. Nobody bats a thousand. We all make mistakes. Since failure is common to all of us, one of the most important life-skills you can learn is how to respond to it. Mature people know how to turn every failure into a learning experience, a stepping stone for future success.The first thing to do is to analyze why you experienced failure. Although there may be a variety of reasons – many out of your control – here are five common causes of failure:·
1. When we don’t plan ahead – As the old saying goes, “If you fail to plan, you’re planning to fail.” Proverbs 27:12 (LB) says, “A sensible man watches for problems ahead and prepares to meet them.” Remember, Noah had to start building the ark long before it started raining!
2. When we think we’ve “arrived” – Remember the lesson of the whale: just when you get to the top, and you start to blow– that’s when you get harpooned! Proverbs 16:18 (GNT) says, “Pride leads to destruction, and arrogance leads to downfall.” In other words, the man who gets too big for his britches will be exposed in the end.
3. When we’re afraid to take necessary risks – The fear of failure can cause failure. We worry about what others will think of us if we fail, so we don’t even try. Former U.S. football player Fran Tarkenton says, “Fear sets you up to be a loser.” We fail to take advantage of golden opportunities. “Fear of man is a dangerous trap” (Proverbs 29:25 LB).
4. When we give up too soon – Many times, success is just around the corner. Remember, the game is often won in the final seconds. If at first you don’t succeed … you’re normal! Keep on keeping on! The value of a postage stamp is found in its ability to stick to one thing until it gets there. “A lazy fellow has trouble all through life” (Proverbs 15:19 LB).
5. When we ignore God’s advice – The Bible is our owner’s manual for life. It is filled with practical instructions and guidelines for work, home, finances, relationships, and health. When we fail to follow these, we’re asking for trouble. “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death” (Proverbs 14:12 NIV).
But remember failure is never final unless you let it be! If you’ve experienced failure, here are some steps for starting over:
1. Accept responsibility for your own failure – If you’ve made a mistake, admit it! Welcome to the human race. Don’t blame others. “A man who refuses to admit his mistakes can never be successful. But if he confesses and forsakes them, he gets another chance” (Proverbs 28:13 LB).
2. Recognize the benefits of failure – For instance, it shows you what doesn’t work. The great inventor Thomas Edison said, “Don’t call it a failure. Call it an education!” Failure forces you to be more creative.
3. Failure prevents arrogance and egotism – If everything you did was a stunning success, no one could live with you! It causes you to re-evaluate what’s important in life. Failure is one way God gets us to reflect on the direction of our lives. “Sometimes it takes a painful experience to make us change our ways” (Proverbs 20:30 GNT).
4. Ask God for wisdom to understand the cause for the failure – Ask, “Why did I fail? Is there any reason I might have set myself up to fail?”
5. Forget the past and focus on the future – Your past is past! It’s water under the bridge. You can’t change it so you may as well stop worrying about it.
"Brothers and sisters, I can’t consider myself a winner yet. This is what I do: I don’t look back, I lengthen my stride, and I run straight toward the goal to win the prize that God’s heavenly call offers in Christ Jesus. "Philippians 3:13-14 (GWT)
